Neuroimaging datasets: organize the context, not just the files
Use a structured review process to understand acquisition details, participant boundaries, derivatives, and dataset handoffs.
Read the guide ↗Explore neuroimaging terminology, metadata, and dataset organization without treating a web image as a clinical interpretation.
A neuroimaging record is more than the picture shown in a viewer. Ask which modality produced it, what the acquisition was intended to study, and what processing happened afterward. Keep data descriptions with the image files. The BIDS introduction is a starting point for structured research data, not a substitute for modality-specific training or clinical expertise.
When planning an educational dataset review, identify original files, processing outputs, and presentation images separately. Record source identifiers and the version of the workflow used to create derivatives. Do not assume that opening a file successfully establishes its scientific meaning. This site provides reading guides and does not host participant scans or interpret medical images.
