Understand the permission boundary

Chrome documents different kinds of extension permissions, including API and host access. Treat an installation request as a question about authority: which sites can the extension inspect, and which actions can it perform? A tool that helps with one article should have a clear reason for requesting broader access. Read the publisher’s explanation alongside the actual permissions instead of assuming that a familiar interface implies narrow scope.

Try a contained evaluation

Use non-sensitive sample pages in a separate browser profile when assessing a research extension. Record the requested access, visible network destinations, and behavior after access is revoked. Compare the result with simply selecting text and taking a manual note. Review changes on updates, and keep personal email, confidential research, and patient information outside an unapproved evaluation environment.

Three questions to take with you

01Is site access narrower than the whole web?
02What changes after an extension update?
03Does revoking access actually stop the workflow?
