Before installing an AI browser plugin: a permission checklist
Review extension access, page context, remote processing, updates, and removal using a contained, non-sensitive test.
Read the guide ↗An extension evaluation checklist: scope, permissions, data flow, updates, and uninstall behavior. There is no plugin download on this site.
An extension’s purpose and its permitted actions are not the same thing. Compare a promised feature with the access it requests. A passage summarizer, a tab organizer, and a browser-using agent present different review questions. Ask for an explanation of page access, storage, remote processing, and any ability to modify content. Reject vague assurances when a concrete data-flow description is available.
A useful evaluation includes installation, first use, denied permission, an update, and removal. Keep a record of which version was reviewed and what changed. Test with harmless documents before considering confidential work. Our permission guide explains how to make this review repeatable; it is not a certification of any third-party extension or a promise that an extension is safe.
