Local vs. frontier AI models: compare the whole workflow
A task-based framework for comparing model quality, device constraints, data boundaries, and review effort.
Read the guide ↗Explore on-device and in-browser inference as deployment choices, with attention to memory, model fit, downloads, and the surrounding application.
ONNX Runtime documents paths for running suitable models in a browser. That capability is not a promise that every model fits every device. It also does not establish that the rest of an application is offline. Separate model execution from initial downloads, telemetry, synchronization, and other network behavior when reviewing a tool’s privacy claims.
Measure the first load, repeated requests, memory demands, and what happens when the model cannot initialize. Keep the input task unchanged when comparing a local and a hosted option. Record reviewer effort and answer quality alongside runtime observations. This site provides evaluation guidance; it does not bundle model weights, run inference, or manage a local model installation.
