LLM data classification: a prompt is only the beginning
Build a label handbook, preserve supporting evidence, and route ambiguous outputs to a reviewable decision process.
Read the guide ↗Understand where AI can support browsing: drafting summaries, organizing evidence, and suggesting follow-up questions—with a reviewer in control.
A model’s fluent explanation is a proposed interpretation, not a substitute for the material it describes. Begin with a small, observable task such as extracting a stated limitation from a paper. Ask the reviewer to locate the passage before accepting the result. Keep uncertain answers visible rather than converting every response into a completed research fact.
Separate finding a source, reading it, classifying it, and taking an action. A system may perform these tasks differently, so a single overall impression is not enough. Design a small test collection with expected outcomes and cases that should remain unresolved.
